Biography
Born on January 21, 1966, in Detroit Michigan, Willie L. Griggs aka Jazzy LG, I am pleased to tell you how right my life is. Growing up on the poor side of Detroit, with a single parent, really teaches you a lot about appreacation. Appreaciating, the meal that you eat, and the roof over your head, cause money was hard to come by. Fast forward to graduation in 1984, which seems impossible for someone growing up in poverty, but I was always enriched by the Lord's blessing, even though I wasn't always obediant. I have had many oportunities come my way, but have not always been the benefactor of them. What I have been very succesful at is my willingness to keep trying, despite defeat, and the courage to admit I'm not perfect. My music has been a healing force in my life, and I have made many friends and aquaintences from the process of sharing it. Currently residing in San Antonio, after a 6 year stint in the military from 1984-1990, I've had life changing events, and experiences. Let me speak briefly about the greatest musical group that was never known, Born Fresh Posse. I joined this group while in the service in 1986. We performed rap music, only at that time, we were one of the few acts that actually incorporated singing in our melodies. We went on to open many shows, and ultimately became a local household name for the 18- 30y/o demographic. Our success peaked in 1988, when we won the opportunity of a lifetime to open up and perform for several rap legends, at the freeman coliseum in front of 10,000 people. With only 5 minutes to perform we gave it our best shot, and to ICE-TEE & KRS-ONE, it was more than good enough. during the break in the show, KRS told me back stage, that he wanted to take my music back to New York. Of course, I was overwhelmed, and greatly humbled, but unprepared, on a business level. ICE-TEE went on to call us the next generation of Hip hop. How prophetic. Seeing that hip hop and r&b have virtually merged as one genre today, we were unofficially the pioneers of this style. As I fast-forward to today, the storybook didn't have a happy ending for all. One of our lead singers "Big Tim" passed away in 1991. "MC King" Tony Jackson, one of my best friends, was incarcerated for life back in 1997, location unknown. Our dj "Veno" got his life together, and is settled down with a wife and children. Myself, I've been blessed with a good carreer, and I have a gospel hip/r&b single coming out. There is much more to the story, but it will have to be told some other time. Despite all the tragedy my life, I am stronger for it.
